in the 1970's van doren rubber company as a subsidiary of vans were under contract to produce extreme cold weather mukluk boots for the US department of defence & air force. that's some serious backing from the US government for those considered to be at the peak of footwear construction & reliability. also in production were these examples of smooth reef/diving shoes with a thin dimpled outsole.
not sure who came 1st but the reef walkers resemble closely & perhaps inspired the style #80 chukka boot with calender outsole.
a rare model from the early 90's which barely surfaces today although when it does often comes draped in velvet! granny boot sensibility with the comfort of a slipper.
