a few years back in that same neglected italian sports shop where i found the infamous step on step i passed up the beast above in favour of his brother. full of regret i went back a year later to find him still there! amongst the commotion, perhaps conjuring multi-lingual skills from a past life, i understood immediately however that there was no right shoe. now i have been known to buy single shoes only, thereby having no conscience holding onto them for my personal stash without any marketability. completely gutted i did not want constant reminder of another 1 that got away so i again passed it up. another 2 years later i passed by only to be compelled by some intagible force to venture back inside where in my broken italian i attempted to re-count the story. the owner then appeared from the basement with said pair in hand!! score! so fellow stock hunters trust yo instincts, & when you can smell a motherload, be sure to follow your knows!

yet again the seemingly endless back catalog of vans originals deliver an as yet unseen rarity. buckle up my friends as style #47 is not your typical chukka boot. instead it comes laceless & enclosed by straps & buckle. originating in the early 90's the style #47 embodies the monk shoe aesthetic & the monk mindset. there are plenty stories out there testifying to buddhist monk abilities through meditation & the power of the mind to transcend the elements & significantly raise body temperature in freezing conditions. you too can transcend & generate HEAT with such a smooth chukka. as such, control your own body temperature in the current freeze with the enclosed warmth of the strap-on #47. in addition the seamless lines will afford you a certain zen feeling of impermanence, without the empty attachment to a laced system. seen exclusively in suede, bonded only to black rubber scene the style #47 is a boundless bounty of harmonious heat for your feet!

this is the final episode from the loren platt's deadstock shoot back in '09. was keeping this 1 to myself until now in the hope of finding another pair. alas i did find his long lost brother however that is another story i'll save for our stock hunting 101 tutorial.

vintage DOLOMITE step on step 1980's hiking boots MADE IN ITALY

when i discovered the following pair of shoes on a hunting mission in a neglected italian sports shop a few years back i almost buckled at the knees. there it had sat for many years accompanied only by pairs which were pale in comparison. this shoe certainly did have inner beauty.

a division of tecnica group out of treviso, dolomite has a long history of outdoor apparel whose climax in my opinion was reached with this piece of footwear genius. i don't know what i was thinking only capturing them in 1 poor photo back in the day. thankfully my friend at zone7style had the foresight to shoot them with some repsect. i don't need to mention any features because their inner beauty resonates deep. i do have his long lost brother available soon however i still wonder if i will ever see another pair quite like this. you may notice i talk about these in the past-tense. this is because they are dead.... stock.

vintage VANS style #39 FULL CAB signature US6.5 MADE IN USA

the 20th anniversary of the half cab & subsequent supreme release of the cab-custom issue brings up the age-old question; is the whole greater than the sum of its parts?
personally the glass is always half full when considering the full cab but it is the half-cab that is the loaded model, embodying endless importance for the skate narrative & the culture that it helped build. as such the sum of the many parts that it played in influencing youth culture goes far beyond any concern that it looks bloated & is lesser than the original.

with monthly drops of the half via supreme stores worldwide this year, of course i would love to get my hands on 1 personally customade by steve himself. i find it hard to overlook however the deterioraion of the half cab since chinese takeover of production in the mid 90's. any tapering to the last appears to have gone & the subtlety of the panelling & crocodile leather was buried in mass production & profit margin. as such, rather than submit to made in china mediocrity & until i find an original full cab complete with 90's custom reductionism, i went 1 better with the following wholesome mouthful of holy grail!

this style #39 hand-signed by steve himself in '07 actually belonged to the 'master of disaster' duane peters! a close friend capitalised upon duane's recent misfortune & scored me this pair from the late 80s when sold to finance his cause. featuring all the genius of style #39 originals, the hallmarks of the legacy left by steve full caballero are fully evident in his spirited message on the box. skate for fun!
as such, yes parts is parts, but the whole is the holy grail!
